Leaf looks like Bay Laurel. Are the leaves scented?

I agree it looks like a bay. I have one in my garden!
  • hi

thanks for the posts, not scented so i dont think it's Bay,  I have small Bay bush in a pot and although the leaves are similar they're not the same. The  tree i'm tryng to identify is huge, and the underside of the leaves are light er or more silver in appearance, see additonal pics.

How do the leaves smell when crushed? Is there a strong fragrance? Bay trees will get vast if left to themselves.

It may be Elaeagnus Umbellata, Autumn Olive.
  • Thanks for  suggestions.

Defnately not Bay, there is no fragrance. Autumn Olive looks very similar, but reading up on it, looks like this tree is way too big (7m tall) to be Autumn Olve.

I agree that the tree looks huge. The only other tree I know with quite similar leaves that can thrive in milder parts of the UK is Pittosporum Undulatum. However, I have never seen one other than in photos. Have you seen spring flowers and fruits? That may help with identifying. Any chance of getting a photograph of the tree a little closer?
