I am looking to buy a low hedge(no taller than 2ft) to cover 18ft in a straight line.
I have searched the internet high and wide to find how many i will need to plant, how long it will take to establish and grow and also the cost!
Any advice will be welcome of types and what to buy?

Or one of those low bamboos salino. I know some that would make a hedge in no time.
I think Verdun's Euonymus would be a good reliable choice.
Not my strong point though, garden design, hedging etc. I just want to get as many different plants in as I can. Over 18 feet I could fit in a good number of small shrubs.

This website is as good as any for advice http://www.ashridgetrees.co.uk/ but I have never bought from them. I guess your problem is the height limitation. Box and Lonicera are the usual dwarf/small leaved varieties used for short hedges, it depends on what type of hedge you want. Even step-over apples will produce one, if you like this sort of thing, and you can make one from just a few trees if you have the patience.
