What pests are doing this?

Hi there
Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Two of my plants are being eaten alive. I've tried going out at night with a torch, but can't spot anything?

Any help would be much appreciated

The top one looks like slugs or snails. The bottom one, I'm not sure. Not slugs, snails or caterpillars - wrong pattern. Birds?

Thanks Fire. I'll put out some slug pellets around the echinacea tonight. Grrrrr

The other one is a small plant in a pot by my door and I've never seen birds there. I've been putting soapy water over them as I'm told that most pests don't like that. But the holes are still coming...

Just my two cents. Others will have different opinions. I think that slugs and snails tend to chomp from the edges and caterpillars eat everything as they go, right to the leaf stalk if they can, leaving a only a lacework behind, if that..

Some sort of weevil/beetle damage to the second one?  It's badly damaged  :(

It was beautiful a week ago too (the second one). I don't think it will survive at this rate!
