Hi everyone,

I've got something growing on the outside of my fence amongst weeds and it has some nice flowers. I'm just curious as to what it is and whether it's worth trying to save to put in the garden?

Thanks very much.

If you're going to move it, the best time is autumn, immediately after leaf drop when it is dormant.  That way you the plant has all of autumn and winter for its roots to recover and re-grow.   Water well an hour beforehand then dig it up with as much root ball as possible and plant in its new hole which should be prepared with some added garden compost/well-rotted manure/bought soil improver and a sprinkling of microrhizal fungae on the roots just before it goes in its hole.  Firm the soil back gently and water well.

Be patient.  Give it some B,F & B in spring.   They can take till June to get their new foliage after a bad winter but will flower all summer once happy.   That clear white is lovely.

Thanks very much for the quick and helpful replies @nutcutlet and @Obelixx. It is growing out of a very small amount of soil on the fenceline which would make it impossible to get a decent root ball out - I should have thought of that earlier. Does that mean it's best to leave it as is, or worth a try anyway? It's obviously self seeded from somewhere as I've not got any hibiscus in my garden.

Can you remove the fence panel and replace it with the Hibiscus on the inside?

Possibly, I'd have to explore and see.  :)
