Plant advice

Hi

I have purchased a new cottage and am new to cottage gardening, I have a few plants I don’t know how to look after/remove could anyone advise what plant this is and how I maintain it.

    I think it's a willowherb and I strongly suggest pulling it out carefully or the seed will be everywhere  - it's a weed I'm afraid
    Try not to let the fluffy seeds blow around

    I agree ... that's a willowherb ... I'd put a bin bag over it before pulling it up ... try to keep those seeds contained.

  • Thanks I will pull them out today.

    Also would you mind advising if I should cut these back  now or leave till later.

    They're Papaver somniferum, Opium Poppies. They are annuals and are dead now. Shake the seed over the garden for more next year.

    They're poppies (papaver somniferum) and I think they're the annual variety - i.e. they germinate from seed, flower then die all in the same year.
    The seed heads are probably still full of seed, you can sprinkle them around (or save them) and you'll have more next year

    lastly I have a lot of these in the garden, I have attached a picture of one in good condition and one after it has blossomed, do I cut it to ground level or leave it??

    Are the leaves as yellow as they look in the pictures. I thought it may be Phlox.
