Trailing fuchsias suffering

GrajeanGrajean Posts: 414
With this intense heat my poor trailing fuchsias are really suffering, the flowers open then within a matter of hours are crisped. The basket is in the shadiest place I have and watered twice a day. If I cut the plants back will they flower again? I have fed with tomato food.

Caveat- a million miles from an expert here.

How hot has it been where you are?

Has the compost been allowed to dry out previously? I can't think of what else could cause this while still watering twice a day, can only think the compost is holding on to very little water.

Assuming there is only one plant in the basket, Stand it in a bucket of water, its been dry they won’t soak up the water, you can cut it back but bear in mind it takes a good 3 weeks before it will flower again.

I have 3 plants in an 18inch basket, temps here have been over 32 degrees every day for at least a week. NW France. No rainfall for ages. Will try the bucket of water method. Thank you.
