Saffron crocus

I planted saffron crocus bulbs in a pot. They never flower even after  5 years. Any suggestions?

Are they in a sunny position?
Do you let the foliage die down naturally, or do you cut it off to tidy up?
  • Quite a sunny position yes. The leaves come very early in spring and are much longer than any other crocus leaves I have seen. They die back naturally. I have now emptied them out of the pot and discovered that they have produced dozens more bulbs but NO FLOWERS.

Try planting them in the soil instead of a pot.  You need to plant them with a couple of inches of soil above the corms.
  • Many thanks. Will try that.
  • Can anyone tell me why my gooseberry bush became totally without leaves overnight?
Same happened to my friend's who lives 12 miles away. She thought the deer might be responsible but I have no deer on my roof unless Santa came early. Both plants are in pots.

Gooseberry sawfly larvae will strip a gooseberry bush overnight. Look closely for small green grubs.
  • Will do. Many thanks

Some bulbs don't flower if planted too deeply - not sure about crocus...
