Kiwi plants

I saw some kiwi plants for sale today has anyone had any experience in growing them and how do they do in our UK weather .

I have a huge kiwi plant that twines itself through a willow Tree. It's quite sheltered in a south facing corner though so I don't quite know how tough it would be elsewhere. Mine is a kind that has hairy stems but my sister had a smooth stemmed one in a container which didn't survive (not necessarily because of the weather)Mine also isn't self fertile either I don't think as I get lots of flowers but no fruit, I believe I need a male and female plant. I bought mine as a sapling so I don't know how you're supposed to be able to tell the difference at that size.
