Large parts of my lawn appear dead.

The heat has obviously badly affected my lawn but large parts of it appear dead.  If I do nothing will it eventually recover or should I consider digging the affected bits and re-turfing or reseeding it.

    Do nothing.  In most cases the grass will recover once we get a decent amount of rainfall.  Reseeding or returfing is pointless until we have much cooler and wetter weather.

    I agree, and most lawns around here look dead or patchy at best.
    The grass allows its leaves to die off in order to keep the roots alive.
    A few days after some decent rain and it'll green-up again in no time.

    We had rain a couple of days ago and nearly all the lawns round here,including mine,have already started showing green again (not a lush sward yet!!).
    Grass will always come back  :):)

    Two days of drizzle and what looked dead is now greening up.  Do nothing.

    Yes, do nothing. Many gardens up and down the country are the same as yours but they'll all bounce back once the heatwave passes and get a good rainfall.

    Satellite images in the media have shown large areas of our 'green and pleasant land' have turned to yellow 'scorched earth'. Sad to see, but Autumn will fix it 😊.
