Can anyone help me and my son identify this tree in Greenwich Park?

    Agree, Magnolia of some kind but can't identify variety.
    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

    Yes. Magnolia. The seed pods are distinctive. You would need to see it in flower to have a chance to identify the species.
