Fern spores

B3B3 Posts: 25,228
My very mature container grown fern has produced spores on every frond this year and looks awful!
Is it likely to do this every year now?
If yes, would division or root pruning help ?
In London. Keen but lazy.

It's what ferns do ... it's how they reproduce  :)

You possibly just haven't noticed it before B3. The prolonged hot, dry spell has maybe given it a big kick start - it probably thinks it's going to die, so is hurrying to reproduce  :)

I'll have to convince it that rumours of its impending demise have been exaggerated.
A little restraint with regard to its asexual activity would be much appreciated though.
