Cherry tree in N Ireland with brown leaves and holes

Our  cherry tree has developed some brown leaves with holes and looks very ugly and unhealthy.

It is in Northern Ireland.

I just noticed this in mid July.

I see tiny black dots - are these black cherry aphids??? Or something else??

Should  I try pruning the affected branches?

Thanks
F.

Underneath leaves. Tiny specs... hard to see what they are.

Yes aphids - the light coloured shells are just that - they shed them as they grow.  I would cut off any badly affected branch tips back to just above a good leaf.  Now is about the right time for pruning cherries anyway - more advice here:

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
