Wisteria training

Ryan180680Ryan180680 Posts: 201
Planted this new wisteria in spring and quite a few of the wispy shoots have grown meaning I've been able to train them. But a couple of broken which is disappointing as they got very long. Any suggestions how I can stop this happening? Also any suggestions on how I can keep this growing For the rest of the year. Been using fish blood and bone once a week

It looks fine to me.  Any broken bits will encourage it to send out more shoots for  a thicker display so just make sure the ends are neat and trim off any growing in directions you don't want.

Blood, fish and bone is a slow release fertiliser so stop that now as you don't want it making new soft growth that won't have time to harden up before the frosts.   Instead, give it a generous dollop of that in spring when new growth starts and then a weekly feed of liquid tomato or comfrey food up until about mid July.   Keep it watered in dry spells while it's young.

We have 2 mature ones that don't need regular water even here but do get a spring feed and an occasional drink in very hot spells.  See my avatar.

Should I start giving it a tomato feed now or leave it be?

It's mid July so leave it be.  Just water generously if it starts to look limp in the heatwave.

I have lots of whispy shoots on the wisteria I planted last year. I have trained it so I've got 6 main shoots branching off either side so should I just let the shoots keep growing and cut them back in July?
