what plants/flowers?

willowillo Posts: 24

Hi All
I’m after some advice please. I've recently planted a new hedge in my front garden, which will take a few years to grow to the required height. I would like to grow something else behind it
Can anyone suggest any types of flowers to go behind the hedge?

Thank you in advance

Nothing behind it, plenty of room in front though, you can have a lovely border there.

Thanks Lyn, wrong wording. but I mean in front of the hedge, not behind.
    Any suggestions?

Hello willo. Having looked at your picture I have to say that I don't think anything will grow behind the hedge next to the wall. It would be competing for water, nutrients and light. I'm not sure what your hedge is but those plants will also struggle and become 'drawn' away from the wall as they look for light.

Your hedge will change from year to year. A Well established hedge will drain the soil below it. Until then you get to plant what you like. Light is also important, so it depends on where the light comes from. I think most plants will do well at present and you can replace and experiment as you go

Willo what kind of thing would you like in front of the hedge? What kind of soil, aspect, vision do you have?

Hello All, thanks for all your responses. The hedge is escallonia, the soil is clay but the border has been filled with top soil. The sun is on that part for most of the day. I really don't know what I'd like just wanted some ideas of the name of flowers or plants to put there and take look at them to see what I like.
    Thanks
