Huge & Beautiful "Weed"?

nikkiirvnikkiirv Posts: 2
Hi All,

I'm new here and a newbie gardener, getting stuck in for my first summer proper...

I've been clearing back a huge Jasmine bush that was taking over one side of our garden - and I found this rather lovely looking beast that had been growing in almost 100% deep shade within the depths of it.

I've searched extensively but I just can't find out what it is...its quite Digitalis-y but those leaves are flummoxing me :# ...would really appreciate some help from the experts!

Thank you so much

    Acanthus spinosus.

Aka "bear's breeches", don't ask me why.  The leaves feature often in classical art and architecture.

Woweeee- thank you all so much!!  I wonder how on Earth it got there and moreover was growing in the near dark in there!!  I think it’s rather beautiful so will do my best to clear it some more space and help it flourish!

The shrub to the right with the solitary red berry is a Skimmia
