Bonny beans

josusa47josusa47 Posts: 3,531

I've always read that runner beans are thirsty plants, but mine are positively basking in the heat, doing much better than last year's.  They've reached the top of their supports and are making a bid for freedom along the washing line.  Full of flowers too, and lots of buds.  The poor spuds, on the other hand, (in the bed behind the beans to the left) seem to lose water faster than the roots can take it up.  I'm drenching them every other evening.

They'll need water to get the beans to 'set', most likely. Plants look lovely and healthy though  :)

Thanks for that advice.  While watering them tonight, I noticed that the first few flowers had dropped, leaving bare stalks.  Someone else has reported the same, despite watering every night.  Maybe I'd better water twice a day.
