Pruning

I have a wild rose tree?  It's has flowered and has rose hips all over.  It has become heavy so I have to tie it to the fence.  As a novice what can I do without spoiling the lovely shape.

as its a climbing rose it need support, i'd tie it into the trellis you have behind and then in the autumn take it to the ground (well 2-3 inches above it) that way it will send out several new growth shoots rather than one leggy arm

Thank you, it is a bit far away from the fence, but I guess if I cut it back, I can direct the new growth for next year.
