I planted 4 established elaeagnus ebbingei hedges 3 weeks ago in my border and they had recently started to go yellow. Please can someone advise what may be the problem thankyou I'm a complete novice.
They just have a few yellow leaves, Jen, and will drop those. It's perfectly normal. All evergreens will drop some foliage [at almost any point during the year] but those are mature specimens which are harder to get established, especially during this very hot spell. They're just a little stressed with the heat - like some humans
Follow doc's advice - plenty of water, especially through the summer. They'll recover no problem - they're tough shrubs - and will be looking much better by autumn
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Give them gallons of water, at least weekly.
