coloured mophead hydrangea has bloomed white!

I have 2 mophead hydrangeas, one pink and one blue. This year, one of them is now nearly in full bloom and they are pure white. They don't look tinged with green or look dirty white or as though they might turn pink or blue - just a uniform, clean white.
The other one is a bit behind and although the buds are starting to open I can't tell if its going to be blue or pink.
I've never used a colouring product and if anything they've been under rather than overfed and then they've just had something like tomorite and they've always been fine.
The only thing that was different this year was that someone put a handful of growmore in the tubs.
Any idea what's going on?
