Dogwood

I was given a young dogwood today.  I want to plant it in a sunny spot close to where established pine trees, rosemary and camellia bushes grow.  Would the soil be suitable for the dogwood?

    GD, they prefer moist soil.

    Right, I will have to think again - I don't want it to die and the heat is quite intense in the area where I had thought to plant it - thanks Joyce.
