Please help identify this shrub

Please can someone tell me what this shrub is? It used to have lilac/bluish flowers but doesn’t seem to flower any more. It’s been in the garden over 30 years. Many thanks

That's an interesting shrub. Any chance you could post a more close up of the leaves? What is the current size and do you remember which months the shrub flowered? My wild guess at the moment, Indigofera Heterantha.

I will do that, although away at the moment.  I can’t remember when it flowered, but they were small bluish lilac flowers like very small budlia/lilac shape.  I have searched catalogues and just can’t see it.  It grows about 5ft and then I usually choose it down. Quite harshly so it is pretty hardy.

Whatever it is you're probably cutting off the stems that would have flowered if you hadn't pruned it so let it grow this year and see if it flowers.    If it does, you need to change your pruning methods but that can be addressed once it's been identified.

Now back home so here’s the photos. Also added a full one to give an idea of size.

Thanks for posting another photo, it's definitely not what I suggested earlier on. I can't think of what it could be right now. I feel like it's something that requires free draining soil and does well in a coastal setting...I hope someone will come along and recognise it.

It is now April 2019 and this still hasn't been identified.  The shrub is now in flower - here are the latest photos, taken today.  Any ideas??

Thanks for coming back with further pictures with flowers. I think you have a choice shrub there. Looks like Syringa x Laciniata, the Persian Lilac.

That is brilliant. Have checked out Syringa x Laciniata and it seems to be definitely that! Thank you so much.
