We have sparrows and blue tits nesting, so all the feeders are emptied pretty much every day. The families stay very close. Lots of goldfinches and starlings too. I have a little bird bath/pond and my neighbours put up around ten feeders and various bird boxes and we have good eaves, there are lots of fruit trees around and dense hedging. So hopefully, between us, we are providing four star accommodation, full board, with penthouse suites and swimming pool. ;)

I haven't been feeding bird along the river very often. The last few times there has only been a few chickadees interested. Late September and they will be back to expecting me most mornings.

In my yard I have the sparrows, chickadees, grackles, red wing black birds, nuthatches, American robins, and warblers.

They all nest in the area so I am still feeding them daily.
I'm growing birdhouse gourds this year in my green house and hope to dry and paint the gourds over the winter.

    Do bird's nest in them?
  • You ARE supplying 4 star attractions between you and your neighbours Fire.  No wonder there is so much bird activity in your garden.  Johnny we all love your bird feeding antics and miss your frequent posts on here - what a lovely set up you have there.

    Hello Guernsey Donkey,
Sorry I've not been around for some time. I got into a bad biking accident a few months ago and the recovery has been slow, plus spring planting and such kept me worn out.
That video is just one I found on the internet, just to show what can be done with the gourds and I hope I can do something like that.

My Bird house gourds are busy blooming away and I have to had pollinate. I do have several baby gourds now, so I know I've got the pollinating bit right. lol

Are they still nesting now? They all fledged weeks ago around here.

Blue tits do quite often have two broods.

They never bother around here. I think it's because we have a shorter growing season so they start later than down south.

I expect so.  Being in the middle it depends on the weather and how early the Spring is.

I this morning  I have inherited the next round of baby blackbirds, ( they don't  nest in my garden) and a baby robin. Definitely second brood as already seen one set of each fledged weeks ago. The baby blackbird is presently sat in the bird bath after mistaking a Starling for its parent. Lol. And now the male is feeding it there.
