 Can anybody help with this crumbly substance that is in clumps in this border...thx

    I believe it is a type of mould - it will smell earthy and mouldy if it is. If it is mould it is nothing to worry about but it does seem to stop water penetrating the soil easily so in my garden I break it up a bit with a hand fork when watering.
