Climbing/rambling roses

Hi all, has anyone had any success in growing climbing/rambling roses against or amongst a privet hedge?

I have a corner that that I would like to put a rose/roses in, it is south facing but does get some partial shade.

I do do not mind the colour and would like if it didn’t have to be hard pruned back

I might bury my worst enemy against a privet hedge but that would be all... otherwise, one of the hybrid wichurana ramblers would cope with most situations.  Some measurements as to required width would be good... I mean, 10, 20,30 or 40 feet?..
