Peonies finished flowering

My peonies have almost finished flowering. Do I cut them back now? if so to what height? they are approx 1 metre tall at the moment. Thanks

I think they have to be left to die down by themselves but i'm not Peony expert. Mine is going in the bin this year as it simply refuses to flower.

Hi Meomye, if they are herbaceous types you need to leave them as those leaves are now feeding the tubers, building up energy for next year's flowers.  Only cut them back when completely brown and dead.  If they are tree peonies then best not to do anything at all other than clear up dead leaves when they fall.

Thanks, B and BTG, they are the herbaceous types so I will leave them 'til they die down. I would like to move one of them at some point, any ideas when the best time would be? many thanks

I always cut the flowers off mine, before they go to seed. They look tatty and come up fine next year, suppose it depends which ones you have.
I don’t cut the leaves off just group them neatly together. Don’t know anything about tree peonies though so maybe you do have to leave the flowers on those.
