The main thing that I like about the tree is the shape of its leaves and to be honest I much rather prefer it in a bushy shape rather than single stem tree. Considering it is a fast growing tree I was thinking along the lines of having a single stem to about 8-10 feet tall and then by prunning quite a bit every year I would force side branches to grow. I might be wrong though.
It will end up looking like a pompom. Have alook at these images and then see if you really want to mess with their natural form or maybe find a weeping form which looks like it's smaller -
