Phygelius - thrip damage

B3B3 Posts: 26,415
This year's new leaves and blossom has been destroyed by what I assume was/is  thrips.
I've pruned off the damaged bits to what looks like healthy side shoots.
Two questions:
Can I hope that the damaging phase of the thrips' or whatevers' life-cycle is complete for this year?
Is there a chance that the side shoots will flower this year?
In London. Keen but lazy.

On further investigation,it seems they are capsid bugs
But question number two still stands
    Will the new shoots flower?

  • I am always tormented by thrips. This pest is so small that at first I didn't observe them biting the shots of my plants and by the time I do there are too many of them. Is there any method I can recommend?

I eventually got rid of the phygellius.  The plant is a PITA thug.
I'm sure you don't want to get rid of your rose. I hope someone can help you with a solution.
