Brown spots on my Areca palm stems/some leaves

Hi everybody! I was wondering if someone could help shed some light on these spots I am seeing on my palm. I read somewhere that it could be scale so I panicked, sprayed the poor thing to within an inch of its life last night and thought I’d sit and scrub the marks off this morning. I have used a wet cotton bud and they come off fine, there doesn’t appear to be movement from the spots, did I panic for nothing? The dots appear on all the stems and even as far up as some of the leaves. There is no other sign of damage elsewhere on the plant.
