NO blossom on Katy apple tree

I planted my apple in tree autumn 2016.  Spring 2017 was a bit like this one where it turned cold and then warm again. Noticed it developed long upright branches but with sections of stem with no leaves. It still blossoms with a few apples. This year, no blossom and still the gaps where there are no leaves. What's wrong? Should I prune? Treat with fertiliser? It does seem to have mostly upright branches with no side branches. My Cox tree has blossomed okay.

Otherwise a summer prune should help it to develop side branches and fruiting spurs.  See here for pruning advice:

Thanks for he link Bob although by confused where my tree fits in to this. It came in a pot I think.
