Patch in Privet Hedge

I have a 8ft high by 60ft mature privet hedge along the boundary of my garden.

Within the border which runs parallel with the foot of the hedge, there are two 9ft conniefers which I'm looking to remove. Behind the conniefers the hedge has become bare which I assume is due to lack of sunlight.

My question is then, will the patches fill out once the connifers are removed?

Thanks in advance.

In normal circumstances, they should. But depending on the size and age of hedge, the recovery may take some time. Prune back the patch to help stimulate new growth. If the areas are not that large, the surrounding hedge may start to grow into the patch if there is adequate sunlight.
