If I bought some red lip salvias as plugs would I have enough time to get them going for this year.

    Hot lips?

They grow fast once they get going. If you give them some nice soil and loads of sun, you might get some flowering, but not so much height, probably. Next year, for sure. They are great for taking cuttings from. So once you have yours up and running, you can create new plants indefinitely.

Here are some of mine, they are grown in pots, and just self seed every year. I do not do anything with them really, except take any dead wood away. They come back every year bigger and better every time.

Jaqueline, they are perennials - do you get self seeding too, as well as the same returning bushes? Is it planted in the last pic with white valerian? I love how mine change each year - sometimes each flowers is red and white, sometimes all red, sometimes all white.

Mine are coming back and some are from self seeding. And I have a red salvia and of course the hot lips one. They can change colour depending on the temperature. And yes they are interplanted with white Valerian, I want to get some pink valerian, as this year it is the best it has ever been and self seeds everywhere. It is a good plant for height.
