If it's comfrey, the leaves will be as much as a foot long and feel very rough and bristly.

I don't think it is comfrey then. Leaves are not so big.

It looks like Comfrey. The leaves don't need to be huge.

Having now looked at images of Comfrey I think it is. Goodness knows where it' come from! Thanks everybody.

It self-seeds quite readily. It usually can grow from a tiny piece in the ground. It's a very useful plant and bees love it, but if you want to take it out, try and get every little piece and don't be too surprised if it comes back in the same area.
