Has anybody found hose fittings which don't leak.  I've just replaced the old ones with brand new, that is new hose and new fittings and the ****** thing still leaks all over the place.

I bought a couple of these from my local Asda a couple or three years ago:
The brass fittings have been perfect and I used the male one to replace the plastic one fitted to the outside tap, which is where it used to leak.  They fit all of my other 'hozelock compatible' sprays etc.

I find Gardena fittings fairly leak-proof. If the hose is permanently attached to the tap you could try plumbers tape to get a better seal.

I have terrible trouble too.. but a new rubber washer and plumbers tape will usually solve the issue for the season.
