Rampant Cardoon

A year ago I planted a Cardoon, it has been very successful in fact to successful. How do I control it, it's taking over. From the innocent end of season sorrowful plant it is now 4 foot high (which is ok) but spreading to 2 foot. It wouldn't be so bad if the leaves didn't keep flopping. Any suggestion on how to control this thug.

Four feet? You ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
But wait! In August, when it is towering over your head, it will suddenly produce the most beautiful huge violet thistle flowers which will be covered in bees.
I just put three 1”x1”x3’ posts and tie some twine round them to hold the leaves up.

It will spread at least 5-6 ft by the time it's full grown.

Soz Lyn. I'll see if they produce better seed this time. None of mine from the same batch germinated either. Your seed sowing skills are not in question.
