Revitalise an ailing Zephirine Drouhin

I have an Zephirine Drouhin in my garden and after doing some serious hacking back of a Himalayan Honeysuckle I spotted that the rose only has one main stem left. Is there anything I can do to help it? I think it has had very little light over the last year due to the moster I just hacked back. There is also an Montana taking over that part of the garden too that doesn't help. Idealy I would like to get it to sprout new stems from the lower part of the plant but not sure if that is possible. What to do?

The sent of this rose is probably one of the best I have ever come across so wouldn't like to loose it.

Adding some rotted manure around the base will help, along with the greater amount of light. Maybe bring the montana in after flowering.  If you want it over the other plants around it, the prioritise it. Give it some space, ventilation and light and I would imagine it could get going.

If there are easy pieces you could take, perhaps try and take some cuttings, just in case you lose it. How does the one cane look?

This is what the base looks like.

I hope that worked. It is currently flowering.

Is it hard to take rose cuttings? Only tried it once and it failed. it was not a very serious attempt the last one.

What is this "time wasted" of which you speak?
