I know you shouldnt prune Acers in the Summer, however our Acer Bloodgood has a major branch which is completely dead.  It is one third of the tree and very unsightly. Would you prune now if it was you?

Removing dead branches from Acer can be done at any time of the year.
That is very different from pruning.
Pruning is done to create a shape/ or reduce size.
Removing the dead branch could well save the live of your tree.
