Gerbera

RoddersUKRoddersUK Posts: 500
Hello all,

I bought a gerbera for indoors and it had a few flowers on it. With in a few days they died.

I've since had no more flowers, but tiny little buds at the bottom of the stems. I had it in a south facing window as I thought it would like lots of light, I read up that they don't like a lot of light, so I have since moved it. Its been a few weeks and not much has happened. It appears to have good healthy leaves and a tiny little flower bud still.

Any other tips ?

You're lucky, gerberas soon become cr* in my garden, I have long given up on them. This plant looks fine, but gerberas indoors won't produce too many flowers (not that they do it outside either...). Take a look at the link:

Thanks for the tips, looks like I'll experiment with light a bit more.
Had 3/4 flower heads, but they've always stayed small and low.

Put it outside now, in an area with a dollop of sun, then dappled. Chucking up 3/4 flower heads.

I bought an outdoor one wilting in Tesco's reduced-to-pennies shelf at the end of last summer. I soaked it, potted it up and put it in the greenhouse. It hasn't stopped flowering yet. It is outside in a container now in half sun/half shade and has about 10 flowers on it. Perhaps I was just lucky.

It's put up two decent flowers now. Been outside for a few weeks. Clearly prefers it.
