Hmmm, is there anyway I can encourage my Clematis to flower on the trellis instead of over the top of it ???? 

Just like this one !!!

    I'm not clear, is the picture of your clematis, or is it how you would like yours to behave?

    If it's not yours, can we have a photo of yours so we can get some clues about what's going on  :)

    No its how i would like them to look, all clematis grow well, maybe too well, seem to only flower at the top of the plant

    Which types of clematis are you growing?  Which pruning groups are they in ... correct pruning will help to get them looking their best.

    Pruning group 2. Clematis 'Darius', is one of them

    I'm not terribly successful with Group 2 clems ... my Daniel Deronda is becoming notorious on this forum for my moans about its lack of willingness to grow and put on a good show.  

    I have much more success with C. alpinas and viticellas ... but that's not going to answer your query ... 

    Hopefully @Richard Hodson will see your query ... he is a fount of knowledge about clematis and holds a National Collection ...

    You've missed the window for the spring pruning in March, so you could do yours after flowering in June/July as advised.
