I think nepeta is closest so far. Is there any way to check if it's that before the flowers arrive. Not that it matters so much. I will keep it and wait...

Have you grown any kind of Agastache? Looks a bit like some kind of Hyssop.

Mint then, most likely. Are there any other mint plants in the vicinity? They can sort of merge flavours if they are close together and end up tasting horrible

.... a mint that doesn't smell or taste remotely like mint? I guess if that's it, there is no point in having it.

How do mint 'merge' flavors when planted close?  I heard that mentioned on one of the gardening shows recently as well.  Assuming it's from an original plant (not a hybrid seed grown one).. could planting several varieties in a pot cause a flavor change?  I've always done mixed pots.. and the only thing I notice is one variety is always a thug and eventually out-competes the others.

Ah, I think this was a very happy salvia uliginosa. I should have listened to my better judgement and not tossed it. Bugger. Another has just come up today in an old pot.  Moral: if it looks like a salvia and smells like a salvia it's probably a salvia. Hold on to it and wait to see what happens.

They just cross pollinate and self seed. The seedlings are a random flavour so could be better or worse I guess. I've never noticed mint seeding here though and I have 5 or 6 varieties.
