Hi

Does anyone have any ideas about how to go about tidying this up? I was planning to strip away the lower leaves to leave a more tree like shape, but i would welcome any other suggestions.

Do you like it?  It's a bit of a monster and those spikes are very, very sharp. You might need to wear eye protection when pruning - and keep any children well away. The only thing you can do is to pull or cut out any dead brown leaves from the bottom to tidy it up, but personally I'd get rid of it and plant something nicer.

To each his own and all that, but I hate them.
They very rarely have a nice shape to them IMHO.

Do you like it? If not I would dispose of it. If you do, then you need to pull away the dead leaves at the bottom but it will look cumbersome.

Cull it and plant something attractive and less dangerous to passing eyes and skin.

They are pretty lethal. My next door neighbour has lots to deter robbers, but it's him that ends up most injured. And the binmen.
