Asclepias

Hi gardeners..... I bought a beautiful Asclepias last year which did very well throughout the summer. (Planted in West facing garden in full sun, East Sussex so generally pretty mild). I pruned it at the end of the season and now just have a few woody stalks although the plant does feel firm in the ground. Have I lost it do you think? Now realise that I should have probably left it well alone but it looked a bit sad after flowering! Anyone have any luck with this gorgeous plant in the UK.
