Tomatoes

I live in Newcastle and was wondering when I can put my Tomatoes into my greenhouse. These are getting quite big and have got the odd buds on or whatever they call them...Sorry this is my first year growing anything.

Is your Greenhouse frost proof? If so then I think you can put your tomatoes in it now. They don't really like cold nights, mine have survived them though. Or you could put them in the GH in the day and bring them back indoors at night.

I lived in Durham for a while and in my humble opinion tomatoes are borderline that far north. Unless you heat it is not a good idea to put tommies out until the first week in June. "Ne'er cast a clout till May be out." That is Yorkshire....BUT watch the weather forecast. There are good signs the recent cold spell may be ending. We are moving to a more continental climate, which means tommies could keep ripening till mid October. Let's hope so. Good luck. Ian

You’re correct Ingle, and there’s hardly any buds showing on the May here, don’t know when they’ll be out this year!

Did you mean put your tomatoes into your greenhouse? Or out of your greenhouse? Where are they now? I assumed they were in your house.

There in my greenhouse until around 7pm then put back on my windowsill at night. They are about to flower and my cucumber plant has tons of flowers on it.
