Broad leaf grass problem - ID anyone?
in Plants
Don't recall having a major problem before this year although lawn is about 5 years old. Live in N.Ireland so it took a real battering this winter but the main issue now are numerous clumps of broadleaf grass that have appeared and make the lawn look rather untidy. Any ideas of what grass it might be? ID might help me determine how best to proceed.
I've dug out a few clumps and the roots look rather shallow. No sign of rhizomes so hopefully not looking at Couch grass.

If there are no obvious signs of rhizomatous roots , and they are shallow then maybe it is the above , which seeds prolifically everywhere as an annual .
I believe Crabgrass is hardy enough to survive temperate climes ; but I may be completely off the mark here !
