Celery without a trench?

I have accidentally bought, germinated and planted out loads of celery. ( Have you seen how many seeds are in a pack?) I have discovered after reading instruction again, I'm not always thorough reading them , that I have bought trench celery. Do you think I can get away with just putting cardboard round them to blanch them as digging a trench is a bit late.

i have no idea if the cardboard will work.. hopefully someone can help.  I did find this image, and thought it might work better.. if you can collect them up from friends and family.

They would be be easy to pull up and down to check for slugs, would last much longer exposed to weather and water, and is a nice way to reuse.

  • That is a great idea!
  • I haven't got any juice cartons, though have stated to ask friends to save them. I have cut down 2litre bottles and will cover them with black paper and hope they survive the rain!
