Asparagus

Hello. Is anyone able to advise? We planted an asparagus Bed last year. All crowns grew well, I resisted cutting any, cut back in the autumn and mulched. A week ago I spotted the first spear. Three plants followed suit but nothing else. Do I assume the other plants have died?  Thank you for any reassurance or hope!

There's always hope!  In my experience with our asparagus they seem very erratic, sometimes they all grow at the same time and at others, they grow when they feel like it.  We've never yet had enough for a hearty meal at any one time, rather it's usually a case of one spear each with a runny egg occasionally or we toss for it. I suppose the more plants you have, the better the chances of lots of spears.
