Plant identification please

This plant has come up in three days. I was away for the weekend and there it was. It is about 30 cms high and seems to be flowering quite soon. Anyone?

Hi Josine. It looks like a member of the Ranunculaceae family and it may be easier to identify once it flowers. There are lots of knowledgeable people on the forum who may be able to pinpoint it exactly.

I think it's that horrible "wild" geum ( the proper name escapes me )
which is all over my garden and defying all attempts to get rid of it
    Geum urbanum?

    Devon.

Think you're right Hosta. I get a little patch of it at the back boundary here, but it's so far stayed there and not crept into the garden itself.
It'll have yellow buttercup-py flowers if it's that josine.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thank you very much! I will let it flower for a bit (I’m a softy) and then dig it up. It looked promising, but alas, no nice surprise.. One thing I learned from this post is the abbr. PITA, I had to look that up😂

let it flower at your peril. Turn your back on it of a nano second and it'll seed everywhere.

    Yep, Geum urbanum  :/
