Chafer grubs in pot

Help!  Just watered a pot and exposed a chafer grub.  So I started digging around and found 32!!  The pot's only 45x45cm.  I've never seen so many.  I've got them all out but have a couple of questions.  Firstly, do you think they came in in the compost as I recently replaced the top couple of inches in all my pots or have they all been laid in there?  And secondly should I feed them to the birds?  Not sure if it's wise to put them on the lawn in case they burrow into it and start ruining the grass.  Any help? They're making my skin crawl!!

Sure they're not vine weevil? I see very few chafers. The adults are quite impressive beetles.
