Plants in greenhouse too advanced, ok to chop? HPs wallflowers, delphiniums etc

The heat has brought on a lot of flowering plants in my greenhouse (I have had the window and door open) and they are shooting up flowers, even though they are quite small. I wasn’t going to plant out just yet. It seems sensible that I can take the flower stalks off, yes? But I wasn’t sure. It’s mainly wallflowers and delphiniums that are going for it.

This is the time for wallflowers to flower so I would leave them but put them outside in a sheltered spot. Delphinium - If you are positive it is flower stalks I would take them off. What size of a pot are they in?

Hi, mostly 1 litre I think, and not filled the pot yet, so they are quite small.

Not convinced they are flower stalks on the delphiniums. Are you sure they are not just the new growing tips on the delphiniums?

Hmm yes they might be. They seemed very upright, but I’ll leave them on.

The delphiniums would be better off outside, no need for a GH now.  You’ll bring them up to quickly and will get more top growth than root, that’s not what you want.
I don’t think it’s flower stalks yet, bit early, but if you’ve kept them all the time in the GH, maybe they are!

Hi Lyn, I’m inexperienced with greenhouse use and things stay in too long, I’m never sure when to take plants out. Up until last week it was damn cold, and now it’s too hot!
