blanket weed

I have many newt families in my small pond but also exessive blanket weed.
It's getting worse as the pond depth is changing due to natural build up of ' soil '.
Has anyone used barley straw liquid ? I have tried bundles of straw with not much
luck; the weed attached itself to it. Any suggestions ?

We use Blagdon's Barley Straw Extract with good results ... it's perfectly fine with our population of newts, frogs, toads, grass snakes, pond snails etc.  From time to time we use their Sludgebuster liquid too to deal with the inevitable build up of vegetable matter at the bottom of a shallow pond.

Once your oxygenating plants fil two thirds of your pond you won’t ever get blanket weed again. They do grow very quickly after 2 years I was pulling it out for the compost heap.
