Tree ID please

Just coming into leaf in our "new" garden ...

    I think it could be Prunus Padus ( Bird Cherry) :)

    Thanks, I'll look at it with that in mind. It's suckering all over the place. Or self-seeding.

    @Fritillary I can see where you're coming from with the leaf shape, but at the moment I'm unable to find the "two glands on the stalk at the leaf base" that the Woodland Trust say is characteristic of the tree. But then I don't really know what I'm looking for!

    I'll post some more photos when the flowers start to come out.

    I think the glands are those lighter green dots where the stalk meets the leaf.

    Sorry not a very good photo I had to hold the camera in the air and hope for the best. Bird cherry in my garden.

    After much peering I can see two tiny white dots at the base of the leaf. So, you might have nailed it! Just have to wait for the flowers now.

    Interestingly it seems to be suckering, which, allegedly, Bird Cherry doesn't do???

    Mine did but that was after we'd disturbed its roots by digging round it to lift grass and incorporate it in a larger bed - fed up of trying to mow round it and a couple of other trees in that end of the grass.
